Problem Statement

Create an experience that allows users to customize, manage, share and generate reports that builds the foundation for the future of Report Center.

Create an experience that allows users to customize, manage, share and generate reports that builds the foundation for the future of the product.

The Paycom Report Center product was incredibly dated, hard to navigate, and offered very little context of information, formatting or customization options when it came to generating reports.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Despite being Paycom's third largest revenue producing product, the Report Center has quickly become outdated, hard to use and lacking in functionality compared to it's competitive counterparts. Clients were complaining, executives were becoming uneasy, and we soon found a handful of clients that stopped paying for or using Report Center altogether in preference of another tool.

When I became the head designer for the product, I was quick to call out at what an opportunity this was for us to really wow our users and provide a much more robust report builder and manager. But, knowing how things worked at Paycom and how hard it was to get something this big really rolling at once, I started working on concepts on my own time to develop what I coined "Operation AllSpark".

After 4 months of research and designing, I started feeling confident in my concepts. I pitched them to the Product Champion in charge of Report Center, who loved every single one of my pitches. We took the concepts and findings to our executive meeting and the CEO Chad Richison became very excited for the redesigned experience. This launched a 6 month project for Phase I of AllSpark.

The Build
